An obsession with tropical and Asian architecture led to the owners engaging the talents of one of Australia's leading pavilion architects, Paul Witzig to design the house of their dreams in this most amazing and sought after location. The result is a home that is beautifully in touch with its environment, and is a rare example of architecture transcending drawings and concepts into a feeling and reality, incredibly unique!
The simplicity of the design is one of its greatest virtues. The bedroom pavilion (4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms) and living pavilion is seamlessly integrated by the heart of the house, the kitchen pavilion. Clever passive solar design and countless glass and timber louvers strategically capture the sea breezes streaming up the valley from the deserted Dudley Beach, only 10 minutes walk away through subtropical rainforest. All windows and doors are rosewood and have a complete set of timber screens.
Australian hardwoods were selected, from the poles, bearers and joists, to the decking, wide board black butt floors throughout and huge unique black butt kitchen island bench. Raked ceilings and glass gables open the home up to an airy liberating and relaxed feel.
The expansive deck brings the indoors outdoors, flowing into half an acre of grounds with garden rooms, orchard, organic herb & vegetable garden, wood-fired pizza oven and lily garden in an antique timber boat.
The home is perched amongst ancient gum trees with an abundance of wildlife and natural beauty, with filtered ocean views to the north from Dudley Beach to Bar Beach.
The living pavilion is unique; a huge room with raked ceilings and exposed featured hardwood framework and glass. The eastern wall is entirely glass louvers opening up the pavilion into the native bush canopy. The large timber sliding doors open onto the enormous hardwood deck, perfect for alfresco dining on a warm summer evening.
The huge main bedroom enjoys the sounds and smells of the surf and vivid colours from ginger lilies and giant bamboo through glass louvers. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th bedrooms each have their own large timber sliding windows and louvers capturing the garden and natural bush setting. The two bathrooms are open and airy. Timber floors sweep into each with Kaldawei baths, timber slatted benches and mosaic tiles. The kitchen pavilion is large, long and utilitarian, with stainless steel appliances, commercial gas cook top, stainless bench and timber island.
Behind the 2 car carport and workshop area is the winemaker's cellar, built into the hillside with capacity for 5000 bottles and 5 surfboards. The tranquillity of this home with perfectly integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, within such a beautiful bush and beach community, fosters a creative and happy lifestyle.
This is the perfect get away for a family that loves the escape to a relaxed lifestyle abode in this most tranquil setting, yet so convenient with its proximity to the city, beaches, highly regarded schools, reserve, parks and shopping centres, most appealing.
